St. Agatha

Agatha was born into a wealthy noble family but at the age of fifteen, she made a vow of virginity, and devote herself to Christ. Quintianus, Roman Prefect wanted to take her for his wife, but she refused. Quintianus thought that if he arrested Agatha and threatened her with torture and death, she would renounce her Catholic faith and accept his offer of marriage. She didn’t.He put her in a brothel, but she still remained pure. He was so angry that he had her stretched on a rack, her flesh torn with iron hooks, burned with torches, and whipped. Finally, he had her breasts twisted and torn off with tongs and then threw her in prisonSaint Peter appear to her and healed her wounds. When Quintianus saw her wounds healed, he sentenced her to be burned at the stake, but an earthquake sent by God prevented this from happening.After being sent back to prison, Agatha prayed and was taken to heaven.
